Tales From a Stinking, Star-Crossed Milky Way
Three thousand years from now, human colonies are scattered points of light, relying on alien tech—scavenged from the wreck of a species no human has ever seen—to cross hyperspace.
That tech has left its mark on humanity in other ways, too. One is a mutation that conveys a degree of telekinetic ability. Practitioners of this ability are called Kamen.
Kamen are trained from childhood to only focus on stone and metal. On the island of Glos on Earff, above a ruined sea, Kamen acolytes undergo a brutal conditioning, studying artifacts from Earff’s Preflight past and honing their bodies in primitive forms of physical combat.
These Kamen, or “Ken’ri,” are forbidden from learning science—or studying anything beyond what their eyes can see—lest they learn to split atoms. Or worse.
This is the story of “worse.”
